Revenue Assessment Report for September 2026 available

Published on Monday, October 19, 2026

(Providence, RI), The Office of Revenue Analysis (ORA) released its FY 2027 Revenue Assessment Report for September 2026 today. This monthly report compares adjusted general revenues by revenue source on a fiscal year-to-date and monthly basis to expected general revenues by revenue source. Expected general revenues are estimated by ORA from the revenue estimates included in the FY 2027 enacted budget signed into law on June 12, 2026.

September Year-To-Date Performance. ORA finds that FY 2027 adjusted total general revenues through September were above the enacted FY 2027 expected total general revenue estimates through September by $58.0 million, a variance of 4.3%. Most of this variance was due to strong sales tax and business tax revenue. Combined, business taxes exceeded the estimate by $37.2 million. Sales and use tax exceeded the estimate by $18.3 million, a variance of 3.9% from expectations. On a cash basis, sales and use tax grew by 7.5% year to date compared to FY 2026.

September Monthly Performance. ORA finds that September 2026 adjusted total general revenues were above the enacted monthly total general revenue estimates for September by $29.3 million, a variance of 5.0%. September is a quarterly estimated payment month for personal income tax and most business taxes. Strong estimated payments caused business corporations tax to exceed the estimate by $25.5 million, or 41.8%. Personal income tax estimated payments were also higher than expected, although this positive variance was offset by a negative variance in income tax withholding. Sales and use tax continued to exceed expectations, ending the month $5.7 million or 3.7% higher than estimated.
